The Muse in Bronzeville: African American Creative Expression in Chicago, 1932-1950 is a book that I co-authored with my late friend and mentor, Robert Bone. It was published by Rutgers University Press late in 2011.

I'm pleased to report that the book is being well-received by scholarly and general readers alike. In April, the Illinois State Historical Society announced that The Muse in Bronzeville had won a Superior Achievement in Scholarly Publication award. In December, it was selected by the Hyde Park Historical Society for the Jean F. Block  Award for Nonfiction. Reviews have been very positive, and The Muse is “Highly Recommended” by Choice: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries.
